Ordeal Expectations

Congratulations on your election into the Order of the Arrow!  It is a distinct honor and credit to you that you have been chosen by the scouts in your unit to become a candidate for OA membership.  You will not be considered a member of the Order of the Arrow, however, until you complete a process called the Ordeal.

The cost of the Ordeal is $40.  This fee will cover your Order of the Arrow dues, Arrow Sash, Order of the Arrow Handbook, a Shenandoah Lodge pocket flap, ribbon-pin, and required insurance.

As of today … we recognize that this is a fluid situation.  The current plan is to move forward as planned and to be aware that things could change as late Friday depending on changes to regulations governing gatherings in Augusta County and/or Virginia.

For the overnight Ordeal Experience you will need to bring the following:

  • A completed medical form. You may use Parts A & B of the official BSA Medical form
  • The completed Self-Assessment forms. Click HERE to download the file.
  • There will be a temperature check at check-in
  • A Face covering and a personal commitment to keep a safe social distance at all times

  1. A sleeping bag or blankets
  2. A ground cloth
  3. Camp chair
  4. Full Water bottle
  5. Gloves
  6. Raingear
  7. Work clothes
  8. Toilet articles
  9. Scout Class A

NO FOOD will be served so please eat before you arrive.  A light snack will be served as breakfast. Please respond with any specific food allergies.

The scheduled drop off time for the Ordeal Experience is Friday between 7-8 pm and the Ordeal experience is scheduled to conclude for a Saturday morning pick up at 11:00 am.

Here’s the bottom line: in order for us to remain safe and enjoy this in-person experience, each and every one of us must practice physical distancing and wear face coverings. It is how we’ll protect ourselves and those around us. It’s how we will do our part at this event to reduce the spread of COVID.

We are 258 … we are Spirited, strong, resilient, caring, and committed to remaining SHENANDOAH SAFE!

Cheerfully,

Eli Hattersley  |  Lodge Chief
